I am writing in defence of the parents' views that seemed to be overlooked due to the headlines of the school closures. Meetings were held for parents, teachers and governors.

At these meetings it was highlighted that the schools in Borehamwood through the Sats league were failing our pupils, even up to the GCSE and A levels.

I am a parent governor and went to these meetings as well as studying the Ofsted reports of these schools and the league tables and from this made my decision from the facts that the three-tier system has failed them.

We won back our nursery places for three-year-olds because it has been proved in other counties in the UK that starting them young has helped them progress in education earlier than at four-plus.

So in the case of these closures, if the three-tier system stayed, then some schools would have to close due to lack of bums on seats.

Lets have some views of the reason why we're having the two-tier system back that has been working throughout the country! There will be some meetings coming up in November for those who want the best for our children, I stress that you come along.

It's time for change for the better, no one likes changes, but the two-tier is for the best!

Larry Taylor,

parent governor, Safron Green School.
