Mantina from Penhill ABC during Foley ABC's visit to Chippenham last Friday night.

In the first 30 seconds, Bolton looked so strong that it looked as though the fight would end there and then as, time and again, he caught Mantina with his rangy jab and long body hooks. Every time Bolton connected he drew gasps from the audience. Suddenly, Mantina seemed to come to life and began to even up the score, matching Bolton blow for blow.

In the second, Bolton played Mantina -who is good on the counter attack - at his own game. As the Penhill fighter was drawn forward, Bolton picked him off, using smooth footwork to stay out of range.

In the third, both lads settled down to their boxing but Bolton's work was by far the more accurate. Bolton's strength won him the fight as he stepped forward to floor Mantina with a left hook right on the chin. As soon as the referee had finished his eight count, Bolton came roaring back to finish what he had started, rocking Mantina with another left hook. The Penhill fighter was saved by the bell and Bolton was announced the unanimous winner.

l Daniel, along with several Foley boys, will be appearing at their own show on Wednesdayn May 17 at Farringdon House, TA Centre, Stonecote Hill, Sutton. Doors open 7pm. Tickets are £8 and can be purchased from Jim Dawson on 0208 549 9051 or on the door. Jim said: "It is going to be a packed programme. We are looking at no less than 16 bouts." Sounds like a must for local boxing fans.

Barr beats ex champ

There were credible performances from three boxers of the Freddie Barr club in Kingston at a special Lloyd Honeygan show at the Elephant & Castle Leisure centre last Saturday.

At the top of the bill, Jason Hart of Carshalton, who had not boxed for over a year, lost out

by only one point over ten rounds to Matthew Barney for the southern area super middleweight title.

Flyweight Shane Mallon, looking for his first professional win, fought out a draw over six rounds with Danny Lawson, of Birmingham.

The most exciting bout of the night featured Matthew Barr, who defeated former British featherweight champion Ernie Smith.

Barr started the contest with some good body shots to his challenger and the contest was evenly poised for Barr when he received a cut to the eye, but ran out an easy winner.

Any interested boxers out there?
