COWES RNLI Lifeboat was called to a suspected fire on board a cruiser off the Isle of Wight this afternoon (Thursday).
The 38ft Chamois reported the starboard engine had overheated and caught fire and that the boat was filled with smoke.
A distress call to Solent Coastguard was made at around 2.40pm.
When the lifeboat arrived at the scene there was no fire aboard. The engine had successfully been shut down and all the smoke had been dispersed.
The lifeboat escorted the Chamois for a short distance on its way to Lymington as a precaution before it returned to Cowes.
