LIFEBOAT crews rescued a stricken angling boat, which had broken down off the Isle of Wight near the Nab Tower, at the weekend.

The relief Bembridge RNLI Tamar lifeboat was launched just after 3pm on Saturday (1) to the 18-foot vessel, Danny Buoy, with one person on board.

The lifeboat, with coxswain Steve Simmonds, was alongside the vessel within 20 minutes and mechanic Bryan Jones attempted to repair the engine. Eventually the angling boat had to be towed back.

Meanwhile, another angling boat, the Chinook 2, with three people on board, had also called the coastguard to report they had broken down around half-a-mile away.

With the first boat in tow, the Bembridge lifeboat headed to the second boat which had also fouled an anchor.
