BEMBRIDGE RNLI lifeboat was in action three times yesterday (Sunday).

The first call was to assist two people aboard a stranded 38ft yacht off Nettlestone Point at 1.05pm.

The yacht’s sail drive had become snagged and was eventually freed using a grapple, before the boat was escorted back to Bembridge Harbour to be checked for damage.

The lifeboat was then called to the shipping channel between No Man’s Land Fort and Horse Sand Fort at 5.15pm, following a report a 50ft yacht had taken on water.

Working with Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue, the yacht, with two people on board, was assessed for damage and not in danger of sinking, so was escorted to Gosport Marina.

While returning to the Isle of Wight, it was diverted to help a 31ft fishing boat that had broken down in the entrance to Langstone Harbour.

The vessel, with two people on board, was towed back to its mooring at Langstone.
