A LIFEBOAT crew from the Isle of Wight were launched today (Monday) after reports of a 62 ft motorboat drifting in the shipping lane.
Bembridge RNLI Lifeboat was launched at 12:40am to the 40 tonne Hershine motor yacht called Solitaire, which was adrift north of Wootton.
A lifeboat spokesman said two people from Southampton were on board the boat, which had suffered a double engine failure. A lifeboat mechanic boarded the boat and found that both engines had lost all oil.
The crew towed the motor yacht, which is based at Portsmouth, to Haslar Marina, Gosport, arriving at 2.20am.
On Saturday, a crew from Bembridge also tended to a wounded crew member brought by a Round the Island race escort boat.
A lifeboat spokesman said crews were off St Catherine's when the escort boat came alongside with a man suffering from rope burn. He was given first aid onboard the lifeboat, before being taken ashore by the escort boat to attend St Mary's Hospital.
