Lights worries voiced again

THE new Stag Lane traffic lights have caused Northwood parish councillors to see red.

They are still unhappy at the speed at which they revert to red when vehicles approach from Stag Lane, causing long hold-ups on the main Cowes to Newport road.

Cllr Colin Cramp said the situation would only worsen when the new Vestas research and development centre opened in Stag Lane. He said the lights turned to red within around 15 seconds of another vehicle approaching from Stag Lane. Councillors agreed to write again to Iain Thornton, the Isle of Wight Council’s traffic manager, for an assurance the final operation arrangement would address their concerns.

Meanwhile, Isle of Wight councillor Roger Mazillius said he was taking up the matter of evening speeding in Three Gates Road with Mr Thornton. He had raised with the highways department the damaged stretch of the A3020 before the Stag Lane traffic lights on the Cowes lane. This has now been marked for repair, he said.
