THE crowds came out in Cowes on Wednesday as the town turned colourful for this year’s carnival.
Led by the Medina Marching Band and Cowes Carnival Queens, the procession, which started in Ward Avenue, featured entrants young and old, all helping to create a party atmosphere.
Children from Love Lane Primary School gathered in numbers as part of their entry, Dream Time, while Cowes resident Peter Evans, 53, dressed up as a Japanese samurai.
A group of cousins from Cowes provided Cowes at War — Remembering Our Heroes, featuring soldiers, a war plane and a battle ship, and friends Margaret Quigley and Coral Lockyer were Edwardian flower ladies.
Three-year-old Melissa Grounsell was the Odd Sock Gobbler and children from Barton Primary School turned into insects, gnomes and flowers as part of their Magical Garden.
Carnival favourites Wight Strollers — Young at Heart, won best overall as they returned with their Zimmer frames, setting the tone as they rocked to Queen’s We Will Rock You and You Sexy Thing by Hot Chocolate.
Other entrants included Lucy and Oliver Blanchard as bumble bees in buggies, Yasmin, Alice and George Humphries as Dragons’ Den and Dominic Rann as the Sugar Puffs Honey Monster.
"It was a brilliant carnival and I’d like to say a huge thank you to the people of Cowes for watching and to the stewards because without them it wouldn’t be possible," said Lynn Hammond, chairman of Cowes Carnival Committee.
