THE National Society for Epilepsy is to hold its second Seahorse Cycle event to raise funds for an ambitious sports meeting.

The two-day festival will coincide with National Epilepsy Week, which takes place from May 18 to 24.

On May 18 there will be a cycle jamboree at the NSE's headquarters in Chesham Lane, Chalfont St Giles, and the following day cyclists will be able to follow short routes around the Society's 350-acre site, use a static exercise bike, or ride a ten-mile loop through the Buckinghamshire countryside.

Last year's event raised £3,000, which bought Duet a special needs bicycle with a detachable wheelchair attached which allows the NSE's residents to experience the joys of cycling.

Daytime activities sports development co-ordinator Alan Vaughan said: "Regular exercise is vital for our residents, all of whom are profoundly affected by their epilepsy. It helps to improve their confidence and co-ordination skills as well as giving them the freedom we often take for granted.

"We hope to welcome more than a hundred athletes with disabilities participating in different sports."
