Lots on shore at this year's Cowes Week

SHORESIDE events for this year’s Cowes Week have been announced.

Event sponsors Aberdeen Asset Management said there would be plenty happening in the town as well as on the water, including a Family Day, Ladies Day and Best of British Day.

Family Day, on Sunday, August 12, will include free and discounted activities such as flag making with Cowes Primary School and model boat racing.

On Thursday, August 16, Ladies Day will celebrate woman in a range of sports, with organisers working in partnership with the Women’s Sport and Fitness Foundation (WSFF)

A trophy will be presented to recognise sporting achievement sailing and nominations can be submitted via the Cowes Week website.

On Friday, August 17, ahead of the famous fireworks finale, the event will hold its Best of British Celebration Day.

Organisers said they planned to announce a full programme of events for the day shortly.

As well as being able to watch the sailing action from the normal vantage points, there will be places on spectator boats.

The Red Arrows will not be able to perform at this year’s event due to international commitments, there will be other aerial displays however, according to organisers.

UKSA will offer watersports sessions for youngsters and Cowes Primary School is providing day care facilities.
