Town go out

Potters Bar Town 0 Ford United 1

FA Vase second round

Town were looking to rekindle memories of their sterling efforts in last season's FA Vase which saw them progress to the quarter finals as they took on Ryman League Third Division side Ford United.

It was the visitors who took the lead in the third minute when a hopeful cross from the right wing eluded the defence and the jump and attempted punch of goalkeeper Russell Ling and sailed into the left hand corner of the net for a simple and gifted goal.

Town's first effort came after 15 minutes when Leon Archer's cross was cleared to David Craig who put Paul Jordan away and his cross found Lee Talbot who had his shot deflected away. Minutes later Steve Smart's long range effort was palmed away by the Ford keeper.

Paul Jordan was within a foot of bringing the sides level on the stroke of half time when his shot skimmed the top of the visitors' crossbar.

Despite numerous attacks Town couldn't force any clear cut openings and, when Matt Corbould steered a header over the bar, Town's last chance of salvaging the tie was gone.
