A LUXURY speedboat was seriously damaged after hitting a shipwreck off the Needles Rocks.
The 30ft RIB, IV Maggie, was rescued by the RNLI Yarmouth lifeboat after it hit the Varvassi wreck at around 4pm on Saturday (24).
The boat was powered by twin diesel engines and was capable of about 30 knots.
One engine drive shaft was torn away resulting in the vessel taking on water and both engines were under water by the time the lifeboat arrived.
The lifeboat took the only occupant, who was shaken but otherwise unhurt, on board and towed the RIB to Lymington where it was lifted out of the water.
