THERE can be little doubt that Tony Blair believes that he has a certain facility denied to others to solve world problems, to identify the solution that has escaped all others. Mr Fix-it zooms in with instant insights and solutions.

I genuinely believe he is sincere, but his world view presumes that most difficulties can be resolved by the market mechanism, when many are caused by its doctrinal application.

His background and ready success, his privileged upbringing and education distort his judgment. He sees himself as a world statesman Mr Bush's mentor rather than the rather isolated figure that easy success has made him.

Having solved Afghanistan's problems, Mr Fix-it is now off to 'heal Africa' and its manifold problems with his instant insights and moral authority.

Of course he does not know how to. How could he with his limited experience and knowledge?

His intentions are good but his ego always desires the world stage. But he is not the leader of a great power like Bush, but was elected to govern Britain. There are many unfilled promises to engage his attentions in the UK.
