MADNESS, Kid Creole and a host of other bands rocked Carisbrooke Castle Fields tonight with a superb series of sets at the Summer Madness gig.
The headliners wowed the 8,000-strong crowd with a string of hits from Embarrassment to Night Boat to Cairo in a performance which also took in several songs from their latest album The Liberty of Norton Folgate.
And there was a poignant moment early on when Suggs read out an appeal for information about the whereabouts of missing Newport teenager Luke Cowan.
The frontman also paid tribute to Summer Madness promoter John Curd, telling the crowd how the Island-based man had been an early influence on the multi-million selling band.
DJ for the evening, former Specials keyboard player Jerry Dammers, came on for a one-song slot with the headliners.
Earlier, the carefully chosen support acts had come to the fore, with Gentleman's Dub Club providing a slick set of contemporary reggae, sixties soul legend Geno Washington rolling back the years with a full-blooded show and Kid Creole and the Coconuts proving they had lost none of their charisma after 25 years, with a short but punchy performance.
