Richmond and London Scottish may have taken their first XVs from Richmond Athletic Ground for pastures new, but a new rugby union side that has just arrived on the scene.

Established three years ago the London Tribes RFC have moved from their original home in Chiswick to train and play at the Richmond venue, and have been inducted into the Middlesex County League.

The team is made up of young professionals living in the capital, the name Tribes being chosen to reflect the international flavour of the squad. Members hail from as far afield as the Americas, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

Their open, fluid and aggressive style of play has won them many fans, and seen them chalk up victories against sides such as Old Whitgiftians and Hammersmith & Fulham.

The Tribes want to eventually establish two amateur sides, finance a 1999 tour to Spain, and host an end of season sevens tournament at the Richmond Athletic Ground.

But they need a sponsor to make it happen. If you are interested call Tony Jones on 0171 642 8641 (eve).
