A MAN suffering from a suspected heart attack was airlifted from Sandown seafront to St Mary’s Hospital, Isle of Wight, last night (Thursday).

The Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA) scrambled its rescue helicopter from Lee-on-the-Solent just before 7pm following a call for assistance from the IW Ambulance Service, which had initially sent an ambulance and ambulance car.

The coastguard helicopter was called out at 8.20pm to transport the casualty from St Mary’s to the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth.
