Man armed with crossbow in Cowes

REPORTS a man was spotted in Cowes armed with a crossbow are being investigated by Isle of Wight police this afternoon (Wednesday).

A police spokesman said: "We received a call at 2.12pm today after a man was seen with a crossbow in the Ward Avenue area of Cowes, on the Isle of Wight.

"We deployed specialist units to the area to follow up this sighting.

"We want to reassure the public that enquiries are ongoing at this time."

Witnesses reported seeing armed officers in the area, along with support from a police helicopter.
* At around 5.35pm police confirmed they had arrested a man.
"A man was arrested by officers in Love Lane, Cowes at around 5pm. A crossbow was recovered.

"Officers would like to reassure members of the public that they did not receive any reports of people being threatened or harmed during the course of this incident," said a spokesman.
