Man arrested after assault

A 37-year-old man has been arrested after an assault in Newport.

Police have appealed for witnesses following the attack, which happened in Nelson Road, between 7.30pm and 8pm on Friday.

Police were called to the incident by paramedics treating the victim, a 40-year-old from Newport.

The victim required treatment at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham, for injuries to his jaw.

DC Jessica Fleming based at Newport police station said: "The assault is thought to have followed a heated dispute in the street between the two men and I would like to hear from anyone who saw or heard the incident."

The 37-year-old suspect, from Newport, was arrested on suspicion of assault and bailed pending further enquires to return to Newport police station on Monday, August 13.
