POLICE have arrested a 65-year-old man in connection with the alleged poisoning of badger setts in Niton.

Around 20 setts were disturbed on land behind Boxers Lane on January 15, sparking a joint police and RSPCA investigation.

Wildlife crime officer, PC Nick Massey, said: "A 65-year-old man has been arrested in accordance with the Protection of Badger Act 1992.

"While the implications of laying poison in badger setts upon the colony cannot be easily be fully assessed, it is hoped that the speed at which this was reported and the contaminated soil cleaned up has minimised the impact."
