Man arrested over alleged rape

A SANDOWN man has been arrested on suspicion of rape, following reports of a sexual assault in Ryde.
A 37-year-old woman called police from Ryde Esplanade at around 7.40pm on November 25, alleging she had been sexually assaulted by a man she had spent time with recently.
The man, also aged 37, has been bailed by police until February 3, following his arrest on Tuesday last week, pending further enquiries.
Detectives from Isle of Wight CID are continuing to investigate the allegation.
