POLICE have said that they carried out a helicopter search in the Gurnard area last night (Thursday), due to concerns for a 44-year-old man.
A spokesman said: "There have been a few questions about a lot of police activity around Cowes last night.
"We were called around 9pm to reports for the concern for the welfare of a 44-year-old man in Gurnard.
"An extensive police search of the area was conducted which included the use of the police air support unit helicopter.
"The man was located around 11.15pm and detained for his own safety."
