A MAN has been jailed for three months after stealing a cash box from a security guard outside an Isle of Wight bank.

Tony Aaron Whilding, 29, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to theft and common assault following the incident outside Lloyds Bank, Ryde, on Friday.

Whilding, admitted stealing the box — which was empty — before fleeing, hitting a woman with the box in the process, according to Isle of Wight police.

A woman who was arrested in connection with the same offence was released without any further action.
