THE new local Labour Party representative appeared on BBC Radio's Today programme to call for humane treatment of the prisoners at Camp X-ray in Cuba.

Mr Graham Dale, who represented Labour for South West Hertfordshire at last year's General Election, spoke on the programme on Friday, January 25.

Mr Dale, who was elected chairman of the newly formed Chess Valley branch of the Labour Party last week, was clear they should be treated humanely.

Quoting Winston Churchill, Mr Dale, director of the Christian Socialist Movement, said: "The mood and tenor of a nation can be judged by the way it treats its criminals".

He added: "When the treatment of the prisoners is in doubt, it is not only morally wrong, but can also throw our own global coalition against terrorism into bad light and this is the very last thing that we want.

"We must take action now to make sure that our treatment of these prisoners is above reproach."
