MORE than £6,000, raised in memory of Isle of Wight firefighter Martin Poynter, will be handed over to the Stroke Association at a gala dinner held on what would have been his birthday.

The Martin Poynter Trust — set up in memory of Martin, who died of a stroke last year — is hosting the event at Cowes Yacht Haven, having raised thousands for the Stroke Association.

The black tie event will include a three-course meal, raffle and live music and takes place on April 2.

Martin's sister, Claire Poynter, said: "All the proceeds from the night will also go to the Stroke Association. All the money comes back to the Island to help people here and that was always very important to Martin.

"I'm absolutely over the moon with how much we have raised in less than a year, it's fantastic."

Ticket details available on the Martin Poynter Trust Facebook page.
