ONE of the biggest raids of its kind on the Isle of Wight, which led to the seizure of £46,000 worth of fake goods, has earned an Island trading standards officer a national award.
During the raid, at a house in Cowes, 2,000 goods featuring 26 fake trademarks were uncovered.
They included items falsely branded as Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Nike, Converse, Abercrombie & Fitch, Ted Baker, Gucci, Prada, Superdry, Ugg, Jimmy Choo, Michael Kors and Hugo Boss.
If the items had been genuine, it is estimated they would have been worth more than £300,000.
The raid saw one person, who was selling the goods on Facebook, handed an 18 month suspended jail sentence.
Trading standards officer James Potter is now set to receive the National Markets Group award for individual excellence in intellectual property enforcement.
"I feel extremely honoured to have been nominated to receive this award. However, this investigation and result wouldn't have been possible without the support from colleagues in the team. To achieve this result in a very small team on the Isle of Wight is something I feel very proud of," he said.
