Mast plans approved

What the meteorological mast will look like.

A NEW sea mast is due to be constructed 8.5 miles off The Needles.

A 100-metre lattice meteorological mast will be built in the autumn to gather wind data for the proposed £2 billion-plus Navitus Bay wind park.

The test mast was given permission by the Marine Management Organisation (MMO).

Project director for Navitus Bay Development Ltd, Chris Sherrington, said: "The approval of the meteorological mast application is an important milestone for the project and will help us gather more important data to support the planning application.

"It will also help us ensure we can maximise the amount of clean energy which the wind park could create. Currently we estimate we could generate enough energy to power up to 820,000 homes.

"Alongside our consultation with the MMO and local authorities, we are continuing to talk to Trinity House, the Maritime Coastguard Agency as well as local sailing and yachting clubs.

"This is part of the Navigational Safety Risk Assessment and will feed into the final Environmental Impact Assessment, which we are currently undertaking."

Navitus Bay Development Ltd plans to submit a development consent order — the wind park’s planning application — to the Planning Inspectorate at the end of 2013.

I hear from others that the usual eco-mentalists and "Say Yes 2 Wind" (Wareham, Prior, Walding etc.) were in St. James Square on Thursday 21st trying to snag the early Festival goers to sign some photo copied "letter" of approval for the Parkhurst application and to say they had "read" the application.
One wonders when the penny will drop into their empty heads that the "Greenest Government Ever" have at long last realised just how expensive and irrelevant this wind scam is.
Additionally, submissions to the LPA will only be considered if they contain material planning considerations, NOT just because some Wazzock got you to sign a pro-forma bit if paper saying "I love wind farms".
Go read Mrs. Justice Langs Decision in the High Court.
BTW, this is NOT a response to the Walter Mitty D.J. So dream on.

Dear Don....allenergy producers are subsidies, nucleur, coal and oil included, so lets not throw that red herring in...it is our duty to attempt as communities, and Island and a country to promote levels of self sufficienticy and I don't include hot air production from the anti-anything brigade

Heres some more good news that came out today.

22 June 2012 Last updated at 15:34
Vestas pulls out of plans for Sheerness wind turbine factory
Earlier this year the finance chief of Vestas, the world's largest maker of wind turbines, quit and other directors will not be seeking re-election to the board.
The upheaval came after Vestas reported a loss about four times greater than analysts had expected.
Vestas made a loss last year of 166m euros (£138m; $220m), compared with a 156m-euro profit a year earlier.

Great stuff!

I noticed this story in todays CP right underneath the story of the PfR mast which collapsed during high winds on the site of the proposed 2 X 125m wind turbines at Parkhurst, which oddly enough was not reported on here.
Lets hope that this mast stays upright.
Apparently/allegedly a "guy rope" snapped causing the high wind to snap the mast.
Just as well nobody was walking past at the time and there were no
injuries or worse suffered by members of the public. With the government now calling a halt to the subsidies within 7 years for these green energy scams, we will hopefully not hear of anyone on the IOW injured or killed by these giant eyesores, because there won't be any.
