WE were pleased to read last week of progress at the new school in Enfield Lock.

We agree with the view of councillors Grayston and Lappage that its achievement has been a journey. We would like to thank the people whose hard work over a long year made the road to the photo-shoot possible.

These include the committee of the Action Group, the parents and residents who wrote letters, attended meetings, petitioned, put up posters and came to hear us speak to full council on their behalf, Joan Ryan, who kept her pre-election pledge to support the residents on this issue and who attended many meetings with the council, and accompanied Dave and myself to many more, Cllr Doug Taylor, who was prepared to meet us over that year, was willing to listen to us and to engage with us and to support the new school at the end of our consultations with him, and lead members who supported our campaign by approving our school.

Then there was the late Cllr Peggy Ford, who gracefully sponsored us to speak at full council on behalf of our residents and was pleased to stand beside us while we did when our own ward councillors, Lappage and Sutters, had refused to do so.

BETH PEDDER,

vice chair for and on behalf of the committee,
