Melting roads may need treating

TODAY'S warm weather may mean the Isle of Wight Council has to apply granite chippings to roads again.

Some Isle of Wight roads had to be treated at the end of last month as high temperatures caused the surface dressing, laid earlier this year, to melt.

The Met Office is predicting highs of 23 degrees today and with highs of 21 tomorrow (Saturday) and 20 on Sunday, work to spread chippings may continue over the weekend.

The Isle of Wight Council said: "This process, if necessary, should ensure all roads remain open although there may be some delays while the granite chippings are laid.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. The work is being carried out at the expense of the contractors. We will publicise the location of any necessary work throughout the day via this page on www.iwight.com, our Facebook and Twitter pages and through the local media.

"Work to bring about a more permanent solution will be undertaken – again at the expense of our contractors – after the summer season."

I did hear a wispa that his resolve had started to flake, so I took a Double Decker to Bembridge which was no picnic as the roads were very crunchie. Sadly all I met was a few drifters. I hope the council realise that this is a topic that we're all interested in.

Richard, I have put a bounty on the highways directors head after this roads fiasco, last I saw of him he was making a breakaway in a taxi to Bembridge airport to get on an aero-plane to go & see the Egyptian temple of the Pharoah Rocher.

You are right Graeme, it would be a real treet if the council repaired the road surfaces but you must come from Mars if you think they would ever manage it - there is always some nutty excuse such as the roads are too curly wurly etc.

Loving the idea of coco pops, that would be a quality street repair. The council needs people like us to give them a boost, too many people like to revel in their mistakes.

Graeme your idea sounds quite absurb & I am kinder surprised you mentioned it, can you imagine all the kids being run over after being hit by cars while licking the roads, or people pinching the roses that are planted at the side?
Does your wife know you said this on a public forum, because if not, you had better nutella.
It would be like a scene from Willy Wonka, but then again, our potholes would be so easy to fix with a warm knife, and if the roads do melt, we could sprinkle coco pops on top (will work better than what they use now!!).

I've just googled the melting point of chocolate which is apparently around 35°C. Could this be the answer to the island's melty road problems?

I would actually pay to read the Highway director's CV after this farce.

Does anyone remember all the mess Barton caused when he was in Barton Towers at the bottom of the High Street?

What did he get when he retired?
