WHEN Wendy Valentine made a chance visit to her local cattle market in 1984, she little realised what far-reaching consequences it would have on her life. Sheba, a 20 year old farm horse, had failed to sell when Wendy made a spur of the moment decision to buy her to save her from being put down. Sheba was soon joined by others, and the animal sanctuary and charity "Redwings" that Wendy founded and developed was described to us by Mrs Jean Bloomfield .

From that single horse, 1500 animals ranging from shires, show jumpers and Shetlands to donkeys and police horses have benefited from the support and care offered at the three major centres, the veterinary centre and two farms now run by the charity in East Anglia. The work has now extended to other animals and an animal adoption scheme provides valuable and long-lasting links with supporters of the charity. On a happy note, Sheba lived to over 40 years of age in quiet contentment.
