A GOVERNMENT minister visited the Isle of Wight to talk to farmers and Isle of Wight MP Andrew Turner about problems disposing of dead animals.
Dan Norris, parliamentary under secretary for rural affairs and the environment, met members of the National Farmers’ Union, the Isle of Wight Council and the Country Land and Business Association.
The Island has permission to bury dead animals here, despite the practice being against European Union rules.
Mr Norris was also told about a possible solution by the Isle of Wight Fallen Stock Company, which would include a collection and incinerator service operated by the Isle of Wight Hunt.
Mr Turner said: "He showed an impressive understanding of the issues and the complexities of the European legislation and the practical problems our livestock farmers face."
l During his visit, on Thursday last week, Mr Norris also met Peter Scholes, group managing director of Energy Environmental Ltd. The group owns both Cowes-based Vikoma International Ltd and Rotawave Ltd, developers of technology for creating 'biocoal’ fuel.
