More ferries to cope with extra visitors

A RISE in visitors to the Isle of Wight has led ferry company Red Funnel to add sailings to its summer timetable.

The company said it would operate additional Red Jet sailings on Sundays from July 27 to August 31 and car ferries this Friday and Friday, August 22.

Red Funnel said it had seen a marked increase in the number of people travelling to the Isle of Wight, with the total cross-Solent car market rising by 2.3 per cent in the first half of this year, compared with the same period last year.

Marketing director Jonathan Green said it followed increased advertising in London and surrounding areas by the company and Visit Isle of Wight.

"Whilst forward vehicle bookings remain strong, we have also seen a healthy increase in the number of day trip foot passengers, particularly from overseas," he said.
