THE mother of a deaf, 11-month-old baby claims she was asked to leave Ryde Wetherspoons because her child was crying.

Reyanna Barrier, 21 from Garfield Road, Ryde, said she had gone out to lunch at S Fowler and Co with her sister and niece on Thursday afternoon. She had taken along her daughter, Evie-Lea who is deaf and uses hearing aids.

Reyanna said: "Our food had just arrived and so I put my daughter in her pram so I could eat."

Evie-Lea began crying so Reyanna said she was rocking the pram to get her to settle.

"After about ten minutes a manager came up to me, in front of everyone. She said she had had complaints and asked me to leave.

"I was so shocked I didn't know what to say, I felt like everyone was staring at me. I just packed up my stuff and left."

Reyanna said despite not touching her food, she was refused a refund by the pub.

She said: "My sister demanded a refund, and eventually they gave in.

"I just felt so hurt and humiliated by the whole incident.

"It's particularly hard for me because Evie-Lead cannot hear me. What did they expect me to do?"

However, Wetherspoon's have disputed Reyanna's claims.

A Wetherspoon spokesman said: “ We dispute the fact that the manager asked the lady to leave the pub.

"A number of customers had complained about the baby crying and one customer, in particular, asked the manager if she could deal with the situation.

"The manager approached the table to make sure everything was ok and also whether anything could be done to stop the baby crying.

"At this point one of the ladies at the table demanded a refund which was given.

"At no point did the manager ask the people at the table to leave the pub."
