Despite Stafford Browne's first goal for the club and the debut of striker Darren Adams, Welling failed to register their first away win of the Conference season -- going down away 2-1 to Morecambe on Saturday, writes Graham Bunce.

With Lew Watts back in the Wings' defence following a three-match ban, United had to withstand strong More-combe pressure in the first-half at Christie Park.

However, the Wings managed to keep a clean sheet until the break but, not for the first time this season, they were still "in the dressing room" as the second-half kicked off and they immediately went behind to a John Norman goal.

But the 855 crowd were stunned 11 minutes later when Welling drew level when Browne scored.

The match appeared to be drifting towards a draw and a previous point in Welling's bid to climb away from the bottom three when disaster struck four minutes from time.

Morecombe substitute Mark Ceraolo snatched the winner to leave United just one point above bottom-placed Doncaster.

Late goals also rocked Welling's youngsters in their FA Youth Cup second-round tie, sponsored by The Times, against Barnet at Park View Road on Friday.

Welling went ahead three minutes into the second- half and looked set for a place in the third round when, first the visitors equalised with a minute of normal time left and then grabbed the winner deep into injury time.
