Former Plymouth defender Marc Edworthy seems certain to step into the skipper's boots following the shock departure of Andy Roberts.

Edworthy, one of Palace's few success stories this season, captained the side which beat Hull City 2-1 in this season's Coca Cola Cup.

He looks a sure-fire bet for the Player of the Season awards following numerous outstanding performances in the right-back, midfield and sweeper's positions.

The other Palace player to deputise for Roberts this season is Simon Rodger, who donned the skipper's armband in the superb 1-1 draw at Leicester.
