MP opens new post office

YARMOUTH'S new post office was officially opened on Friday — just next door to the old one.

Isle of Wight MP Andrew Turner cut the ribbon at the new branch, at Holdings newsagent, Quay Street.

It will be open from 6.30am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm on Saturdays, and 7am on 5.30pm on Sundays — 34 hours longer than previously — offering the same post office services.

The cash machine will be relocated inside the post office.

Holdings' Mark Donaldson said: "Customers are very happy with how the branch looks. We managed to carry out the refurbishment work without the need to close, then we'd almost completed it when we flooded. We got the carpet tiles dried and cleaned, and replaced damaged tiles, again without the need to close."

Mr Turner said: "With Bouldner Road closed for seven weeks this is a difficult time for Yarmouth, so I welcomed the news that Yarmouth Post Office was to be relocated in a bright modern open plan branch. Like Yarmouth itself the post office is open for business.

"The post office is vital to the community and I'm sure the new improved office, and the longer opening hours, will be warmly welcomed by all of my constituents."
