THE SHIPWRECK Centre and Maritime Museum will be marking Father’s Day with a free open day on Sunday.

The museum has been at Arreton Old Village for six years, but owner Martin Woodward wants to raise its profile because lots of people are unaware that it has moved, he said.

"The museum was in Bembridge from 1978 but I am still very keen that local people are made aware that we actually moved, as many assumed I had closed the museum down after leaving Bembridge.

"Not so! We have expanded the museum, added a lifeboat museum, and there is far more to see now than at the previous Bembridge premises and I’m hoping that the magic word 'free’ will encourage people to come and discover us.

"There are lots of things happening at Arreton that day, including a classic car show and much more," he said.
