Musician hurt as van stolen

A DISABLED band member was taken to hospital after the van he was loading music equipment into was stolen.

It is alleged the Ford Transit was taken from outside the Black Sheep Bar, Union Street, Ryde, between 1.15am and 1.30am on Sunday.

Dave Weedall, a member of the band Mechanx, was thrown out of a door when someone started to drive the parked Transit away from the scene.

Mr Weedall, 63, who has two artificial legs was taken to hospital but his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

The Ford Transit was found on fire in Jellicoe Road, Binstead a short time later.

Police are continuing to investigate and any witnesses to the incident, or anyone else with information about someone driving a blue Ford Transit van in the Ryde area during the early hours of Sunday morning, can contact Ryde police station by phoning 101.
