A YACHT called Mystery lived up to its name when Cowes Lifeboat found it drifting unmanned into The Solent’s main shipping lane last night (Sunday).
The lifeboat crew who found the 30ft vessel, discovered that although its anchor had been dropped off Osborne Bay, it had not been properly secured.
After checking the area for any sign of the yacht’s crew, members of another yacht told Cowes lifeboatmen they believed they had seen them heading to Cowes in a dinghy.
Two of the lifeboat crew went aboard the Mystery to retrieve the anchor so the lifeboat could tow it to Cowes.
"While the yacht was being towed, a small dinghy emerged from the harbour, carrying a very grateful and embarrassed Dutch couple and the mystery was solved," said a spokesman for Cowes RNLI.
