Never mind the baubles I really like the needles

Nahla the lioness enjoys playing with her Christmas tree.

CHRISTMAS trees have been, well, the cats’ whiskers at the Isle of Wight Zoo.

Sweet smelling spruces, much loved by domestic moggies, have proved even bigger hits with the lions and tigers at the Sandown attraction.

Nahla the lioness was among the big cats to make short work of the Christmas tree in her enclosure, enjoying the new sensory experience.

"We’re always looking for new enrichment experiences for the animals and to give them the present of a tree at Christmas seemed just the right thing to do," said the zoo’s Sonia Mitchell.

"There’s been a real spirit of Christmas goodwill at the zoo, with the 30 primates very much enjoying their Christmas gift from Waitrose of a large amount of mixed fruit."
