A FESTIVAL to celebrate the harvest of hops and the launch of a new ale is taking place this weekend.

Ventnor Botanic Garden is holding its annual Hop Festival today (Saturday) and Sunday, alongside the traditional skills fair, and the launch of Yates’s TropicAle.

Irene Fletcher, education programme manager of the garden, said: "It should be a lovely event. We have mini-garden making for children, morris dancing displays and workshops on the Saturday, the folk band the Dollymopps will perform and there will be tours of the hop fields."

The Isle of Wight Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers will demonstrate their skills while the Red Squirrel Trust and the Isle of Wight Bat Hospital will also be there. An array of food and drink, including a hog roast and ale brewed from the garden’s hops will be on offer.

The festival runs from 11am to 4pm on both days and admission is free.
