THE NEW Isle of Wight archdeacon was welcomed with a special service held at the Minster Church of Sts Thomas on Sunday.
As previously reported, Ven Peter Sutton, 53, has been appointed by the Bishop of Portsmouth to take over the role from Ven Karen Schmidt, who had been acting archdeacon since Ven Caroline Baston left for a new role.
At Sunday’s service Ven Sutton was presented with gifts, including a hamper of Isle of Wight produce given to him by children from Brighstone CE Primary School.
He was officially presented to the congregation and welcomed by dignitaries and groups including Lord Lieutenant Maj Gen Martin White, Rev Rosie Deedes on behalf of the prison community, Rob Whillier on behalf of the ecumenical community, Hilary Spurgeon on behalf of Island Readers and Jean Wavell of Island Laity.
