ISLANDERS looking to spend the summer enjoying one of the Isle of Wight’s most beautiful spots have the chance to get their hands on new beach huts being leased by the council.
Leases for 20 new beach huts, being built by the Isle of Wight Council at Colwell Bay, have been made available and the authority expects them to be snapped up quickly.
The new huts will be in place from spring and ten year leases will cost £10,000. The huts will be painted in bold primary colours and measure 2.4m by 1.8m.
Although there are hundreds of beach huts around the Island that are privately owned, this is the first time the authority has provided beach huts for lease directly.
Cllr Shirley Smart, Isle of Wight Council executive member for planning, tourism, recreation and culture, said: "Island beach huts are a part of our beach life, for summer and throughout the year. They are highly sought after and we expect the leases to sell very quickly – I’m sure we’ll have waiting lists before long!"
