PREDDIE STEADY STOP.

SWANS WIND DOWN AT CHESHAM.

Swans could not raise their game on a sticky pitch at Chesham on Saturday, and a home side desperate for points to climb out of the division's bottom three showed the appetite necessary to win the game.

Walton, lacking the services of both regular full backs Alan Dowson and Erskine Smart through injury, welcomed back Jeremy Jones following a further knee operation while Chesham fielded former Swans' top scorer Ansil Bushay in attack. Swans made their accustomed slow start and when Bushay beat Jones on the right, Walton keeper Delroy Preddie had to make a fine stop as Archer fired a shot in from the left of the box. The Walton keeper was again brought into action, falling on Browne's low drive after Bushay had dummied over McGuire's cross from the right. The home side dominated the early exchanges and it was no surprise when they took the lead after 17 minutes.

Bushay got in a header on the edge of Swans' penalty area as Preddie came out but failed to get to the ball, leaving McGuire the simple task of knocking home from close in.

With 10 minutes remaining of the half Preddie just got a hand to a stinging half-volley from Browne after McGuire had headed across from the right.

Walton relied on occasional breaks from defence and although Barry Rake caused some problems down both flanks, Addai in the home goal had an easy time.

The nearest Swans came was a downward header by Trevor Baron from Steve Moss' corner which had to be hacked away from inside the six yard box, but Chesham against went close, Preddie saving at his near post as a fine pass by Bushay put Engwell in on the right. With Tony Reid on for Jones, Swans made a far better start to the second half and were dominating when Matt Pearson drove in a free kick from the left which just passed outside the near post.

Simon Ray replaced the limping Gary Holloway after an hour and almost immediately his dipping cross from the right touchline caused Addai to make a spectacular tip over.

Reid was then desperately unlucky not to equalise as his glancing header from Moss' left wing corner looked to be going in the top far top corner but Engwell headed out from under the bar.

After 72 minutes the home side scored their second against the run of play, McGuire heading home unchallenged from 10 yards as Engwell swung in a corner from the right, Preddie's first action of the half being to recover the ball from the net.

Reid was again unfortunate as he just failed to get in a clean header at the far post as Ray sent in a deep cross from the right after being played in by Andy Sayer. Swans then began to lose heart and it was left to Bushay to spurn two good chances of scoring against his old club in stoppage time.
