A teenager from Shenley will carry a personal message from the Queen through London to help launch this year's Commonwealth Games.
Rosemary Willans, 16, from Ribston Close, was nominated to take part in The Queen's Jubilee Baton Relay by pupils at her school, St Margaret's in Bushey.
A judging panel from the Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme selected her as a runner because of the voluntary work she had done for disabled people in Bushey, and her helpful attitude at school. The baton will carry a message from the Queen, calling people to the XVII Commonwealth Games, starting in Manchester on July 25.
Rosemary will be one of 5,000 runners carrying the baton through the Commonwealth, before it reaches the opening ceremony, where the message will be read out.
"I was really surprised to be selected, I didn't expect to get through. It is a really great honour to be chosen," she said.
