Cheam Village BC 67 (4½ pts)

Ewell BC 55 (½ pt)

Rink 1: Cheam Village: L Dunn, T McKeown, P Coleman, E Nolan, 18. Ewell: P Godfrey, R Churchill, R Harris, P Brooks, 18.

Rink 2: D Miller, R Claydon, R Ware, D Wood, 26. J Bradley, D Boyton, M Millburn, I Durham, 16.

Rink 3: V Young, T Woods, A Soper, P Vamvacopoulos, 23. J Bailey, L Bond, G Halls, B Cave, 21.

It was a very disappointed Ewell team that left Tudor Close after their Epsom & Sutton League match against Cheam Village. Cheam Village, with three Surrey Middleton Cup players in their side, were second best, that is, up till the tea break. Vamvacopoulos was 7/21 down, Nolan was a little behind with Wood in charge on his rink. However, Ewell lost control after tea, allowing the Village to score on all three rinks, leaving the Cheam Village team and supporters very relieved.

Ewell BC 64

Imber Court BC 50

Rink 1: Ewell: J Looker, W Jordon, R Harris, I Durham, 22. Imber Court: B Parry, 17.

Rink 2: P Godfrey, G Pritchard, D Boyton, M Millburn, 19. P Cornish, 21.

Rink 3: R Taylor, L Hawker, G Halls, B Cave, 23. R Blackney, 12.

Result: Ewell BC 77 v Merton Park BC 74.

Imber Court BC is of course the Police Sports Complex and turn out very strong sides, so a good win for Ewell.

Cheam BC 74

Cheam Fields BC 112

Rink 1: Cheam: D Vaughvan, A Downton, D Appleford, D Haigh, 15. Cheam Fields: M Pullen, J Watkins, K Harper, B Waters, 31.

Rink 2: R Brackfield, D Pulley, G Fitzgerald, M Appleford, 12. N Robinson, J de Lannoy, C Rand, L Kemp, 22.

Rink 3: J Hunnisett, M Clarke, N Asten, D Hunter, 16. J Annys, K Tugwell, D Waters, R Coles, 20.

Rink 4: J Dawson, S Duke, D Veale, R Willson, 15. C Smith, D Matthew, C Drucknian, J Jellis, 21.

Rink 5: K Bell, P Goldfinch, G Stevens, G Gibbs, 16. J McCormack, B Weeks, J Jones, S Jellis, 18.

A very disappointing result for Cheam in this local derby with Cheam Fields' defeat by 38 shots, and not a winning rink!

Sutton Common 70 (3½ pts)

Rink 1: Sutton Common: F Mannini, C Mitchell, D Turner, G Watson, 28. Rosehill: E Shliney, 14.

Rink 3: J Haines, S Nicholson, M Doherty, R Rolls, 19. S Wright, 22.

An important win by G Watson and his rink enabled Sutton Common BC to take majority points in this Sutton & Epsom League game.

Triples

Mid-Surrey BC 67

Richmond BC 97

Rink 1: Mid-Surrey: G Greenwood, H Scott, D Dawes, 7. Richmond: B Conn, M McGlinchey, A McConnachie, 28.

Played at Richmond on their 125th anniversary, in this mixed triples, it was sad to hear that the Richmond BC would close in September 2000. Let us hope by then there could be a change of heart.
