A NATIONAL helpline offering consumer advice has been taken on by the Citizens’ Advice Bureau (CAB).
The Consumer Direct helpline is now called Citizens’ Advice Consumer Service and will provide help and advice on consumer issues. People who call the helpline will be referred to the Isle of Wight CAB or Isle of Wight Council trading standards where appropriate.
CAB Isle of Wight chief executive Gay Beal said the organisation regularly offered advice on a wide range of consumer problems, from complaints about utility and telecomms providers to questions about buying second-hand cars.
She said: "I believe this process, which started on April 1, will have a progressive impact on the bureau and how it works. We will need to gear up to meet the challenge and the increasing expectations of our clients. With help and guidance from our partners, we will expand the support and advice available and provide a holistic service for the Island."
Principal fair trading officer Julie Woodhouse said: "The Isle of Wight trading standards service looks forward to working closely with the Island’s CAB and ensuring Island residents can easily access the help and advice they need."
