AN ISLE of Wight pub has reopened after being given a fresh lease of life by a new landlord.

The White Lion, Arreton, which closed in September, was taken over by Fighting Cocks landlord Phil Mew in October and was reopened on Monday evening.

Phil said: "The pub was closed very suddenly and we were asked if we could take it on and get it back up and running as a village pub.

"We have totally refurbished it and redecorated and it’s completely different to how it was."

The pub has been transformed to include a traditional wooden bar area with a separate area for a table-service restaurant.

Phil said: "It is a cracking little pub, a proper village pub, and we have given it a total renovation with a proper bar area, an emphasis on food, new kitchen, new carpets and new furniture.

"Everyone is finding their feet and we’re all looking forward to Christmas and hopefully the locals will be back up to the pub and will enjoy the changes we have made."
