A NEW principal has been appointed at an Isle of Wight primary school.

Mark Stephens, deputy head at Gurnard Primary School, will take charge at St Blasius Chuch of England Primary Academy at the start of the summer term.

Since Christmas, Mr Stephens has been working two days a week at the school as executive head. He was formerly headteacher at Solent Middle School, which was rated outstanding by Ofsted.

Rodney Fox said: "The governors are absolutely delighted to have secured the services of such an excellent principal with a track record for leading an outstanding school.

"The governors are very confident that, under Mark’s leadership, St Blasius will make rapid progress towards being the outstanding school that we intend it to be."

The school was formerly Shanklin CE Primary, but was given permission by the Department for Education to become an academy last summer. In September 2012, Shanklin CE Primary was rated inadequate by Ofsted.
