New restaurant set for Cowes

The Jolliffe building in Cowes, which is to become a new restaurant – Jolliffe's Rocks.

THE historic Jolliffe building, in Cowes, will re-open in a few weeks’ time as a restaurant, where customers will be able to cook their food on volcanic rocks.

Polly Matthews, a former chef turned businesswoman, has gone into partnership with her son, Josh, in her venture, Jolliffe’s Rocks, at Shooters Hill.

Polly, of Newport Road, Cowes, said she had always admired the landmark building, one of the most recognisable in the town: "I have wanted this building since I was a teenager."

During the day, she plans to serve cream teas and coffee but at night, customers can cook their steaks and burgers on the rocks.
