The closed Hartland Hotel.
A WELL-known Island hotel could be converted into a holiday centre for families with autistic children.
A planning application has been submitted to convert the closed Hartland Hotel, in Shanklin, into a specialist holiday centre, incorporating owner’s accommodation and four units for holidaying families.
The 20-bed hotel, in Victoria Road, has remained closed for a year following repossession.
If planning permission is granted by the Isle of Wight Council, the centre will be used mainly for holidays by mainland families.
The proposals are backed by specialists, including Dr Viv Hinchcliffe the head of centres for specialist needs in the London area.
The applicant says facilities, including the swimming pool, could also be used by local residents with special needs.
